The woman had Cushing's disease (non-fatal pituitary gland tumor) in the brain. Drugs can treat it, but removal of the pituitary gland would be even more effective, although the surgery is very dangerous. The woman insists on having the surgery.
House discovered that the 'death cat' only slept/lay on people because they were warm, either feverish or wasting away and being artificially warmed by electric heating blankets.
House then discovers that it's the woman's appendix that is causing her trouble and stops the surgery, saving her life.
